2025: The Oasis Roadmap

A preview of what’s ahead for the Oasis Ecosystem

2025 is set to be a pivotal year in the Oasis Ecosystem. For the foundation, a new year means a new set of ambitious targets. From product launches to infrastructure and performance improvements to groundbreaking partnerships, collaborations, and growth initiatives, many exciting developments are on the horizon. All of these are possible due to the progress made over the course of last year.

Looking Back: Major Milestones From 2024

  • Launched Runtime Offchain Logic (ROFL) - a computing framework for verifiable AI
  • Introduced liquid staking - TVL quickly grew to 12m+ ROSE on Accumulated Finance
  • Ran the second edition of the P4W3 hackathon - garnered 150+ submissions
  • Launched the Privacy Now Podcast to elevate the conversation around onchain privacy
  • Distributed 15+ grants - incubating the next generation of Oasis dApps

Oasis Engineering Outlook for 2025

Oasis has been building with TEEs since 2018. First, to unlock private onchain shared state with Sapphire (still the only confidential EVM-compatible network), and in 2024, capabilities were expanded into the off-chain realm with the launch of the ROFL framework. This year, the team aims to address two key challenges to fuel ROFL adoption and meet a broader vision for decentralized AI.

The first challenge is simplifying development through TDX container support while also exploring the introduction of a dedicated "ROFL functions" app. This initiative will streamline the development process, making it more accessible for developers.

The second challenge is facilitating deployment by ensuring that running a ROFL node is easy and cost-effective. This includes implementing ultra-light stateless nodes, automatic bundle distribution, and establishing a ROFL app deployment marketplace.

There will be ongoing performance improvements, ensuring that ROFL applications remain efficient and robust as they evolve. Additionally, integrating GPU TEE support will enable ROFL apps to effectively cater to AI use cases, further broadening their applicability.

As a showcase, the engineering team is working on the next generation of Oasis Privacy Layer (OPL) with an agent running on ROFL. This service will enable cross-chain communication with genuinely unprecedented redundancy, trust, and censorship resistance.

When it comes to app development for ROFL and the blockchain, the team will provide a series of easy-to-integrate building blocks. For instance, when using Sapphire, developers will be able to verify with a single line of code (and without extra parameters) that a transaction originated from an application running inside ROFL. For convenience, the local Oasis development tooling will be ported over to run natively on MacOS and Microsoft Windows, and developers will have the ability to write their apps in TypeScript, Rust, Go, or Python languages.

As mentioned, there are plans to use ROFL to prototype the next generation of OPL, which will leverage ROFL’s capabilities for attesting cross-chain state and events rather than relying on a traditional message passing bridge. This will allow for faster cross-chain communication and eliminate the costs associated with bridging.

A final (but crucial) piece of the roadmap is UX. Improving user-facing applications (ROSE App, Oasis Blockvote, Oasis Explorer) with a brand new Oasis UI design system will be a priority this year. As will efforts to streamline user onboarding by providing a native ROSE bridge to and from Ethereum (and beyond). This is important as it represents the launch of native ROSE on other chains and the creation of a trustless bridge to Sapphire, which will increase the accessibility of ROSE and the ease of liquidity flowing to Sapphire.

Beyond the Protocol: Business Development, Ecosystem, and Community

Business Development

Following the growth of the ecosystem natively on Sapphire and cross-chain last year with partners like Ocean, Midas, Accumulated Finance, and Neby, to name a few, plans are in place to build on the momentum coming into 2025. All of these efforts will be buoyed by surging interest in AI and ROFL coming fully into production.

The BD team will continue to work with current and new partners on all the use cases that can materially improve by adding onchain privacy, e.g., confidential voting, private DeFi, sealed auctions, account abstraction, etc. However, decentralized AI is the sector that will most likely proliferate through many of these use cases, and this is where ROFL comes in.

One of the primary targets is to expand the ecosystem of ROFL apps that will utilize our framework for the verifiability and privacy that it offers. From easy deployment of truly autonomous AI agents to teeML with GPU TEE support, it’s set to be a massive year for DeFAI on Oasis.

Community & Events

With a focus on meaningful collaborations, more content, and deeper global connections, 2025 will be a year of growth and more opportunities for everyone in the Oasis community. In particular, efforts will be focused in Asia, with dedicated community managers, tailored initiatives, and localized events in key areas across the region.

In 2025, expect more from the Privacy Now Podcast, with more episodes diving into Web3 privacy and AI in the works. The Oasis Academy will also expand its library with new courses, tutorials, and resources to help members learn and grow. This will be paired with gamified programs like the upgraded Sentinels initiative, where members can enjoy more rewards for contributing and engaging with Oasis.

Alongside community, the events team is gearing up for a big year. 2025 will see more Meet the Team episodes, ecosystem hangouts, and discussions with some of the brightest minds in crypto. In-person, catch the team at ETH Denver and ETH Dam, traveling around the globe to attend hackathons and engaging with communities across Europe, North America, Asia, and Latin America.

Looking Ahead

Building with privacy enables new applications, new economies, and, ultimately, new realities. Oasis is poised to be one of the central providers of privacy-preserving infrastructure, not only for traditional onchain use cases but also for the growing interplay between crypto and AI.

In 2025, the team is doubling down and working toward a more secure, confidential, and ubiquitously integrated layer for a private and decentralized future. Stay connected with the Oasis community by joining us on Discord, Reddit, and Forum or following Oasis on X.
