Tell us a little bit about yourself (where you’re from, what you’ve previously worked on, etc.)

I’m a tech and social changemaker from Nicaragua and Co-founder of Digital Bonds. My experience has been focused on social innovation, working mostly with local and international non-profit organizations. I have extensive experience designing, developing, and implementing web platforms, mobile apps, and virtual reality projects for the social good for the last seven years. Since 2019, I’ve been focused on Blockchain technology for social good, with a background that has let me understand social problems from a holistic perspective, narrowing its solutions with a scalable technology inclusion.

When and why did you first get excited about blockchain technology?

Before October 2019, I was always curious about the ecosystem, reading some content in my free time. But it was until this date, when I became an Ethereum Foundation Devcon Scholar, attending Devcon V at Osaka, Japan, that I had the opportunity to be immersed in the ecosystem. From that day forward, I became fascinated with what blockchain proposes as a radical change to upgrade how our society works and improve its trust mechanisms in a decentralized, immutable, and verifiable way, together with a community of minded people willing to analyze societal issues from a holistic perspective and to propose pragmatic solutions. Since then, I’ve continuously been devouring books, participating in top blockchain educational programs, and participating in a variety of worldwide hackathons.

Tell us about your project (what is it, how does it work?)

Basically, Akasify wants to solve the gap between young change-makers and civil society organizations, creating a virtuous cycle of good actions based on a decentralized, immutable, and verifiable trust layer. It works by establishing a comprehensive workflow guiding beneficiaries and organizations from the opportunity creation and application to it, till the award and tracing of each step to improve micro impact metrics values.

What inspired you to tackle this particular problem?

The gap Akasify is proposing to fill, is based on more than seven years of experience being in the civil society field, passing for most of the possible roles: local and regional volunteer, board member, a consultant for tech innovations, and social business owner. Each of these roles has provided me a holistic perspective of the misalignment between multi-stakeholders in this ecosystem, and my hypothesis is that blockchain could help us to realign vision and purposes among its members through a trust layer.

What made you interested in building on the Oasis network?

I got excited about Oasis for its main value proposal, providing a privacy-enabled blockchain platform for open finance and a responsible data economy.

Why are privacy and confidentiality important components of your project?

At Akasify, this is important, because, in order to create trust among its members and multi-stakeholders the platform needs to provide privacy and confidentiality to the shared data; because due to the nature of the platform, we expect a significant amount of sensitive data transferred through it.

How does your project use the Parcel SDK to create a responsible data economy?

In my first iteration approach, I integrated Parcel SDK, by storing in it the sensitive information shared for opportunity applications, storing just the dataset hash on the smart contract platform.

How does your project use the Oasis Ethereum ParaTime?

In order to test the platform smart contract I used Oasis Ethereum ParaTime, for its intuitive UX and easy to use mechanism.

What’s one of your favorite Oasis network features that you’ve discovered while working on your project?

Definitely, it was the easy to integrate mechanism of Parcel SDK.
