Reclaim Protocol Integrates with Sapphire to Enhance Web3 Data Authenticity

This integration promises a seamless bridge between Web2 user data and Web3 applications, expanding the horizon for privacy-focused dApps.

Reclaim Protocol (YC W21) is set to integrate its bridging technology with Oasis Sapphire. Oasis offers Reclaim a $50k grant aimed at fostering Web3 development and adoption by generating zero-knowledge proofs of users’ profile information for a new approach to authenticity.

By bypassing the need for APIs and website modifications, Reclaim ensures that Web2 user data, previously elusive to Web3, will now be seamlessly available across dApps on Oasis. This will allow dApp developers on Sapphire to leverage Reclaim to build diverse use cases related to identity verification, sybil resistance, proof of personhood, and more.

With the grant, Reclaim looks to leverage ZKPs to create secure, private digital signatures that encapsulate a user’s identity and reputation without compromising the underlying personally identifiable information, or PII. These cryptographic proofs allow users to confirm specific data securely and privately.

Reclaim ensures authenticity by routing the https requests and responses through a network of decentralized proxies that sign the encrypted data transferred over the wire. The user’s device then produces a cryptographic proof using the encrypted response and digital signature, confirming the presence of data without revealing it.

“The integration with Sapphire opens brings enhanced privacy and utility in the Web3 space,” stated Ruchil Sharma, Growth Manager of Reclaim. “Our technology ensures that personal data remains private, yet fully utilizable across dApps, empowering a new wave of applications in privacy, sybil resistance, and more — all without additional technology that could weaken privacy protocols.”

With the integration onto Sapphire, known for its leading confidential EVM technology and smart privacy, there are many possibilities. For instance, it will be possible to mask user data in merkelized forms, enabling protocols like Semaphore to store user data as merkle attributes. This not only enhances Reclaim’s privacy capabilities but also provides a robust infrastructure for dApp developers across the Oasis ecosystem.
